Watchthedeer Weekly News Weekly News: 5/2/08

5/2/08: we are seeing bucks with little nubs on their heads now. The Canadian bucks havemore than numbs though.

4/28: All spring planting is finished and we have some rain. The Canada Bucks are growing antlers. One has about 7inches already! Wow! The canadian bucks will shed their winter coats and have a reddish coat very soon.

4/26:We finished spring planting this weekend. 300 lbs/acre of 10-10-10- fertilllizer will be spread, then harrowed in with a heavy log behind the harrow. The log helps level dirt. Next the seed, Iron Clay Peas, is broadcast and rolled in with a six foot roller full of water for extra weight. Our spring planting covers about 14.5 acres and not all of that is viewable with our camers. We can plant about 18 acres total on our property.

4/9:The West Texas Camera is up and operational. It is located at 30d 45' N Latitude, 102d 17' West Longitude. Special thanks to Jerry!

Many of you have asked about our incredible number of hits each day and month. Please read the section in our Advertise with Us for more information about Hits, page views and other web analytics. Remember- statistics is Greek for 'lies, lies and more lies'! :)

A Tip of the Hat to Bill & Bob Chesher, of ChesherWhitetails in Ontario, Canada where our T110 camera is on one of their multi-acre deer pens. By our standards, heck any standards, those are fantastic bucks the Chesher's are raising! Camera is at 44* 14' N latitude, 77* 29' W longitude. It gets light a lot earlier up there and dark comes faster too than way down south!

Note: If a camera picture seems frozen or shows daylight where eastern daylight time is night, this means that camera is not sending images. We typically reboot the systems to get lazy cameras running. Right now our lazy camera is the T105 Kudzu cam. Also the cameras without any lights do shutoff around 9:15p.m and sometimes an image is partially sent. That's why you might see an image with a gray area.

All images are live, running about 30 seconds behind real time.

New Camera Locations: We are looking for new camera locations. You must have power (120v), high-speed Internet, and LOTS OF GAME! Feeder locations are the best. Unfortunately, deer trails are not the ideal since deer just pass through too quickly. If you have a site and are interested, please email us with your information or questions: David@WatchTheDeer.com

Membership: Streaming video is available in the large format size on the public site. MEMBERS ARE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAMERAS at various times throughout the week! All for just $10/month! You can see the image size by selecting the “Member Preview” link on the left.

Solar-Powered Camera: Click here to see our completely self-contained, solar powered, cellular camera system . Here's another view . Four 15Watt solar panels, a regulator, deep cycle marine battery in a plastic case, a Basic Camera unit, High gain antenna, Special PC card for internet service, and router in the equipment box. Checkout the Camera Page for more information.

Animal Views: Our cameras have a low IQ. They follow a pre-set schedule that stops at each view for a specific amount of time (usually 180 seconds). Unless a human is controlling the camera, it does not “know” when animals are in view. Unfortunately, that is why the cameras will sometimes move away from certain animal sightings.

Capturing Images: To save an image on the screen to your PC, simply right-click the image and save it to your desk top or disk.
